Leyland Gardening Society
In 1945 at the end of the Second World War three local lads decided to start up a local show. It was about this time the annual Leyland and District Agricultural show was in decline. They felt that something had to be done to keep an interest in the Horticultural section in Leyland going.
They arrange a meeting and it was decided to have another meeting in the Congregational Church school hall to select a committee. The first show was held in the school hall with an entrance fee of 6d. At the A.G.M held in January of the following year it was decided to carry on and to start a summer show. From that time on the shows have increased the types of entries, in 1966 Floral Art was introduced and then in 1970 The Preston Cacti Society asked if they could join.
The annual show now include even more areas of interests for both adults and children. The society has gone on to have monthly meetings, events and trips out together with the Grand Show each year.
